I’ve seen far too many Facebook status updates that went something like this, “my phone is sitting in rice, please don’t try to reach me via my cell.” A dear friend of mine (who can remain anonymous because I know she reads this blog) has had her phone in rice more then once in the past few months. She most recently fell in a creek with her phone in her pocket. It happens to the best of us. Maybe you are THAT person that has had your share of rice baths for your poor smartphone or maybe you have THAT friend that jumps in the pool with their phone on them. The phone slicker is the answer to wet + smartphone fiascos. Best of all, you can still use your phone while it is inside the phone slicker.
When to use your slicker:
- By the pool
- Near a lake
- In a boat
- When you float (okay, now I’m sounding like Dr. Seuss- back to real purposes)
- Giving toddlers a bath
- In the rain
- On the slopes
- Working in the kitchen
- Falling in creeks 🙂
- Fishing
- Camping
- Gardening
- Basically anytime your phone could get wet or dirty.
Please note that this is for ACCIDENTAL water damage. Don’t use this to take underwater pictures. It will save your phone from a quick dip, splash, or sprinkle. If you plan on swimming, taking underwater pictures, or engaging in an activity where your smartphone might submerged in water for a period of time, you should buy a case specifically designed for this purpose.
The best part about the phone slicker is that you can continue to use your phone during your watery adventures. I snapped this photo at the pool the other day through my phone slicker. It’s got the “phone slicker filter” if you want to be cool about it.
You know what’s not cool? Having to replace a smartphone and paying up to $600 for a new phone. Not gonna happen for me. I have to protect my phone because I can’t afford to replace it.

July 7, 2014 at 6:47 pmThis may be gross, but my husband and I take long bicycle rides and he sweats a lot! Usually he brings his phone and when he does, he puts it into a plastic bag so the sweat from his jersey won’t ruin the phone (which has happened before, hence the plastic big!). These would come in handy for that! Thank you!

July 7, 2014 at 3:37 pmI used to have a Motorola Rokr. It was pretty much the coolest phone ever at that time back in the day. I accidentally left it in the front pocket of my hoodie and in to the washing machine it went. I was so sad. I currently have an iPhone 4.

June 25, 2014 at 10:24 amWell, you already know my story about falling in the creek 🙂 But, also, the other time my phone sat in rice was my 5 year old’s fault. He spilled half a cup of water into my purse while we were eating at Chipotle. Random, huh? I definitely need this for my iPhone 5 😉
