So, we do a lot more of the family movie nights at home instead. The convenience of pausing the movie for bathroom breaks makes it worth it right there!
This past weekend we had a chance to check out the instant, on-demand streaming service, VUDU, for our family movie night as we watched the new The Angry Birds movie. And it may have been the endless amounts of popcorn talking…but my kids were beyond excited!
I know, I know…Not another streaming service! But, hear me out on this because I really think you’re going to like how VUDU does it!
First, VUDU has no membership fees. No subscriptions. You simply open an account and only pay when you want to rent or own a movie or tv show.
Which is another thing :: you have the option to RENT or OWN! This is great because sometimes we thing we’re going love a movie but then we watch it and it’s meh. Having the option to just rent a movie that we’re not sure about (without leaving my house) is kind of awesome! Also, there are no late fees (again, kind of awesome for the person who happens to be writing this who often forgets to take movies back on time). You typically have 30 days to begin watching your rental and 24 hours to finish it. How many times have you picked up a movie from one of those rental boxes only to get home and realize there’s no way you’re going to stay away to watch it? Oh, yeah, me neither….
But did you also catch that I said it was MOVIES and TV? I also used VUDU over the weekend to watch the finale to a series I had been watching all summer but missed. It was so easy! And I was really impressed with the selection they offered of both movies and tv shows. Some of the hot new releases from this summer all the way to some great “oldies”.
Like most other streaming services, you can stream your movies or shows from VUDU on most smart TVs and Blu-ray players; on your computer, Android or iOS devices; gaming consoles; or through your Roku, Chromecast, etc. But unlike many other services, VUDU requires less bandwidth for a high resolution experience. Seriously, my super picky audio/video husband was blown away by how great The Angry Birds played and sounded through VUDU.
My kids could have cared less about all this because all they cared about was OMG! WE GET TO WATCH THE ANGRY BIRDS TONIGHT!!!!! And, of course, they are already scoping out other movies to watch on VUDU for our next family movie night.
One quick note that you should know about VUDU though :: You will need to add a credit card to your account when you sign up. Again, you’re only charged when you rent or buy a movie or show but I wanted to a make sure you guys knew that first 🙂
Ok…now let’s giveaway some opportunities to check out VUDU!
