As parents to two young girls (ages 3 and 6) my husband and I have had to make decisions as to what toys, games, and shows portray ideals and behaviors that we believe to be age appropriate for our girls. For example: there are play doll aisles at our local big chain toy stores that I don’t even take the girls down because I know that the dolls, outfits, accessories, and general marketing for those particular product lines don’t mesh with what we have decided is appropriate for our young daughters.
Basically I don’t think my young daughters need to have dolls that are prematurely sexualized, wear indecent clothing, or help promote unrealistic body images. They are little girls and I want them to stay that way for as long as possible!
Apparently I’m not the only parent who feels that way (there’s a lot of us out there!) and thanks to 18 months of research and development from Arklu with girls, parents, retailers, industry leaders, child psychologists and child nutrition experts the Lottie Doll was born.
Based on the scientific proportions of a 9-year-old (except for her head which is larger to accommodate ‘hair-play’) a Lottie Doll can stand on her own two feet. She does not wear make-up, jewelry, or high heels. She has bright, colorful clothing with significant attention to detail and she wears clothing that is in line with what an actual 9-year-old would wear.
Lottie Dolls, like Robot Girl, are smart and imaginative. Like all Lottie Dolls, Robot Girl came in bright reusable packaging that does not require the parenting equivalent of the Jaws of Life to open. The box is perfect to reuse as a storage and carry all for the Lottie Doll and it even fits the Busy Lizzie the Robot Accessory Set as well.
There’s a lot more you can learn about Lottie Dolls and I encourage you to take a stop over on the Lottie Doll About Page to get the full scoop. As a parent to two young girls I appreciate that Lottie Dolls provide a positive “pro-girl” doll at an affordable price point that also offers a nice variety. With a recommendation for ages 3+ I know that at least one more Lottie Doll and some extra accessory packs will be on the Christmas Lists for my girls this year.

November 9, 2013 at 2:27 pmI love how they are actually accurate to what a 9 year old is supposed to look like, unlike those strange Bratz dolls.. What’s cool is that kids can still get to have fun playing dress up with a doll without comparing themself to an unrealistic, oversexualized doll. And I would choose either Autumn Leaves Lottie or Pandora’s Box Lottie.

November 8, 2013 at 7:58 amI love this: in many ways, she is inspired by the spirited female characters in books we loved as children: Anne of Green Gables, Pippi Longstocking, Jo in ‘Little Women’, Nancy Drew and George in the ‘Famous Five’. Hoorah for great girl role models from children’s lit!
I would choose Autumn Leaves Lottie.
Amy Franz
November 7, 2013 at 11:26 pmI love that they are also being made into a series of chapter books!! I Would have a hard time choosing between the robot girl and the pirate girl – our daughter is 8 now, and is a huge science nerd, so it’s hard to find her science toys that also allow her to be “girly”, because she does honestly want both! I am definitely going to get her a few Lottie dolls to replace some of the dolls that well-meaning relatives have purchased for her!
Daraya
