I remember bringing home our first baby so clearly. We were in awe and stared at him for the first few days. Then we googled what he could see through those newborn eyes. Was that smile from gas, or did he really just look at us and grin? All our babies would give my husband extra attention when he would hover over them and it was the contrast of his dark hair and light skin. That’s because newborn’s prefer sharply defined, black and white edges and patterns. Baby’s First Block Books is a series of mini board books that are designed for babies as they learn to focus and their vision develops.
I always desired to play with our babies, but I was never quite sure what they liked. These books are perfect because the first book will be fun for them to stare at around 1 month of age. The books grow with your child. By 4 months of age, most babies can see subtle shades and respond to repeating patterns. These books are a great way to introduce shapes, colors, and patterns while babies develop their visual skills. Here’s your tool to interact with your baby from a very young age.
Now that our Charlie is one, he is into stacking his block books. If I need to put dinner on the table, he will sit quietly on the floor or in his highchair and thumb through his block books and build block towers. These books are Charlie and mom approved.
What’s included in this adorable set? Four little block-shaped mini books, each measuring 2-3/8 x 2-3/8 inches.
- Black and White—simple but interesting shapes moving into more complex shapes and patterns
- Red, Blue, and Yellow—introduces primary colors and slightly more complex shapes, moving into real patterns with multiple colors
- Color and Pattern—secondary colors and more complex patterns
- Visual Excitement—subtle shades and complicated patterns
