We are in the home stretch of the Race Across America going on right now. Have you been following this like my family and I have? Did you even know it was going on?
I’m going to break a few things down for you in this post. Here are my objectives:
- Address what Senseaware by FedEx is
- Tell you about Race Across America (RAAM for short) and inform you how you can see what’s going on
Race Across America, known as one of the longest sporting events in the world, supports companies biking for great causes. FedEx tracks packages at all times and in all conditions across the world, but for this race, FedEx Custom Critical, a division of FedEx specializing in shipping high-value, time-critical items, will be tracking a very special human package with a one-of-a-kind technology. The Ohio CycleWorks bike team, sponsored by FedEx Custom Critical, is participating in this year’s Race Across America, raising money for the Akron Children’s Hospital and showcasing the capabilities of SenseAware, a comprehensive tracking and monitoring service used to provide near real-time data about customer shipments.
Throughout this thrilling 3,000 mile bike race, supporters will be able to follow the team’s journey through FedEx employee and Ohio CycleWorks Charity board member Scott Garchar’s eyes. Garchar will travel the race with a SenseAware device that will track his current location, as well as the environmental conditions throughout the race.
First, let’s address senseaware. Here is an overview of what it is:
SenseAwareSM powered by FedEx is a first-of-its-kind service that gives you near real-time data about your shipments — and the ability to share that information collaboratively with your business partners. A multi-sensor device deeply integrated with a powerful web-based application currently enables healthcare and life science customers to stay connected to their most critical shipments.
Basically you put an object in your package that monitors a ton of information about your package including temperature, location, exposure to light, humidity and barometric pressure. Pretty sweet, huh?
Now, why am I tell you about this? Because it is directly related to the Race Across America via the Ohio Cycleworks Team! This team is racing for a great cause! The Ohio CycleWorks bike team is raising money for the Akron Children’s Hospital. FedEx Custom Critical is happy to be a proud supporter of the Akron Children’s Hospital and the Ohio CycleWorks team.
- This charity makes for a natural fit for SenseAware® because it allows healthcare providers to monitor critical shipments, the kind that can help save the lives of the very children that Ohio CycleWorks is riding to support.
- For more information about the Ohio CycleWorks Charities or to donate to their cause, visit their website.
You too can follow along on their journey visually by going to their Tumblr Page.
A SenseAware device will travel with Garchar and the team throughout the entire race, which kicks off on June 16 from Oceanside, California and ends in Annapolis, Maryland between June 21-25. The device will be linked to the web-based platform providing near real-time GPS location and environmental conditions.
I received compensation from FedEx for covering the use of SenseAware® technology during the 2012 Race Across America. My ideas and opinions relayed in this blog post and any related Twitter discussions are the my own and are not provided by FedEx or its affiliates and subsidiaries.Thank you Mom Central for allowing me to share this campaign as well!
