I love when I can’t put down a good book I am reading, and I hope that I can help my children learn to love reading too! So much can be learned through readingbooks,and that love for learning can start when kids are little. We read to our kids every night before bed, and I love when my little guy heads over to the book shelf by himself and sits down to “read” a story. He’s really starting to become creative in what he says for each page, and it makes me so happy to see books as a top choice for something to do.
When I taught elementary school, there were a lot of kids that struggled with reading that in turn did not like to read. I always encouraged them to find books that interested them, and to practice that way. It didn’t to me if they read about cars, or dinosaurs, or princesses, or fairies. As long as they were reading something, they were getting some of the practice they needed to become more successful in the basic skills of reading. I want this for my kids too, so we try to find books that they love to look at.
Blue Manatee books has been a great resource of books for our family. They have recently redesigned their website and come out with new book boxes making them even more fun for our family to find what we are looking for. We recently received the Zoom Box, which is all things trucks, planes, tractors, and boats. I don’t think my little guy couldn love the selection we received any more! He loves I Stink!, a silly book about garbage trucks. He has been really into firetrucks so the two books with fire trucks and firefighters have been a big hit as well. Maisy’s Plane and The Little Blue Boat are great classics that we’ve been reading before bedtime. The box comes with a crayon, sponge, and some other fun things to make the box into something fun for kids too!
