The name Korie Robertson may be a familiar name to you. She is the wife of Willie Robertson from the television show Duck Dynasty. Not only is the Robertson Family known for the seemingly “rags to riches” story, but they are also known for their strong faith in God.
I was excited when I had the opportunity to review Korie’s new book called Strong and Kind. As a mother to a 2.5 year old and am expecting another babe soon, I am always excited to learn (maybe glean is a better word?) from the other mother’s around me. I love taking what they have learned and believe and applying it to our family. Not every family will parent the same way, but in the case with the Robertson Family, OUR family goal is to raise children to love God with all their hearts.
As I mentioned before, I am a mother to a 2.5 year old, so finding time to sit down and read is a little harder these days. I have not completely finished the book yet, but I am eager to finish it! In the first few chapters, I already find myself encouraged in my goals as a parent.
There are two things that jump out to me in this book so far. First of all, I love the Korie makes it very clear that she does not expect you to “follow these few simple steps and your children will turn out fine.” She understands that each family is going to be different and act differently. BUT what is important is having an ultimate goal for your children, recognizing it early on, and striving to reach that goal by living it! The other thing that I love about this book is that Willie (Korie’s husband) chimes in every now and then with his own insight. Unless you are a single parent, typically you have to make decisions TOGETHER. Hearing what Willie has to say is encouraging to me because it lets me know that him and Korie are a TEAM. They have discussed everything that Korie is writing about and are striving toward their goals as a united front!
