This book is based on a true story set during the French and Indian War. It is about two young sisters that are carried away by the Delaware tribe during the Penn’s Creek Massacre. They are put through impossible circumstances and are expected to assimilate into the Indian culture and lifestyle. Because of their strong faith in God though, these two girls hold firmly to the belief that they are never alone, even in their darkest hour.
Talk about a great plot! I was hooked instantly and didn’t put it down until I knew what happened to these brave girls… If you love adventure and history, you will love this book as much as I did!
Because this book is written for ages 8 and up, I read Alone Yet Not Alone with my 10-year-old niece in mind. I wanted to make sure that it truly was age appropriate and something I felt confident giving her to read. I was VERY impressed! Despite the gruesome circumstances the two young girls go through, the author does a wonderful job describing events without going into too much detail and making it graphic.
I also appreciated the fact that the author did not spend time dwelling on adult themes, but rather took the opportunity to paint a picture that was vivid and exciting while teaching children about the history of our nation.
This book may have been written for kids, but it is definitely a book adults can enjoy as well!
Wait… It gets even better! There is a movie based on the book coming out September 27,2013. The Dove Foundation has awarded it 5 Doves. I’m sure it will be a film that families can enjoy together! You can see the Movie Trailer here.
