It’s FINALLY shorts season here in Michigan (at least on occasion) and the first time I slipped on a pair of shorts, I noticed just one thing. My super dry, scaly winter skin! It needed more than just a bit of lotion, so my daughter and I headed to the kitchen to make our own sugar scrub.
This recipe can’t get much easier. Just a few ingredients stirred together make a simple and healthy way to exfoliate and soften the skin.
Ingredients: 1 cup oil (my favorites are coconut oil, jojoba oil and sunflower oil. Olive oil also works well but sometimes can overpower other scents), 1 cup sugar (ideally best to use organic cane sugar), a few drops of your favorite essential oil (for a great essential oil deal, see my post here).
Directions: If using coconut oil, melt it first. Then simply mix the ingredients together and store in an airtight jar. The mixture should be the consistency of gritty toothpaste. Keep as you would any oil (I just leave mine in my bathroom cabinet). It should keep for several months–if it lasts that long!
It cannot get more simple than that, ladies! Let me know if you try it out. Feel free to experiment a bit–I think I’m going to try a brown sugar vanilla scrub next.
