riff rockit :: ready to rock with me?

While out doing errands the other day I decided to put in our new Riff Rockit CD for my captive audience to listen too.  This is my usual testing grounds for new music because the mini-critics have to stay put and will provide their VERY honest opinions.

About 2 minutes into the first song, “Rock With Me,” I looked up in my review mirror to see (almost) 2-year-old Dani’s head bobbing up in down to the music.  It was then that I knew that we had a winner of a CD on our hands.

Los Angeles based entertainer Riff Rockit (real name Evan Michael) and his self-titled debut album is a hit with my little ones for his upbeat rock music geared just for them.  With educational and entertaining lyrics Riff Rockit is a hit with mom as well!

Key Riff Rockit songs include: “Hero” (about how simply being good is a heroic thing to do), “Nightlight” (which references his long-gone fear of the dark), “Alphabet Rock” (which teaches the alphabet in a rockin’ way), “Pearly Whites” (which encourages kids to floss), “Rock with Me” (which Riff says epitomizes what he wants the Riff Rockit concert experience to be like – a rockin’ fun time), and “What Was That?” (a funny ditty about the strange things and noises kids ask about).

My favorite surprise on this album was when I was enjoying a song with the girls to then tune in more closely to the lyrics.  After laughing at myself for the absurdity (seriously, before becoming a parent who would have thought) I just started smiling.  The girls and I had been rocking out to a song about flossing.  Flossing isn’t a favorite task for my kids, but listening to a song about it might help make the whole process less of an ordeal in the long run.  Thanks Riff Rockit!  my SIMPLE star rating :: 4 out of 5
