Several months ago I went to visit a friend who’d just had a baby and she had this gorgeous lamp in her daughter’s room. It was made of a wire “bowl” filled with several orangeish-pinkish rocks and a light beneath the rocks. When I asked about it she told me that they weren’t actually rocks but pieces of Himalayan salt! She also told me all about the
health benefits of salt lamps. But I have to admit that the thing that really caught my attention was the beautiful glow. When I watch TV, I like to have just a little light on but not enough to distract me.
This mini salt lamp from
HimalayanSaltShop.com is perfect for that. Also my children sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and are afraid to walk across the dark house to our room, but the salt lamps gives off just enough light for them to see without us having to leave on an overhead light.
So what exactly is a Himalayan salt lamp? They are natural chunks of salt taken from the mines found in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. Each salt lamp has a hole drilled into the bottom, and it comes with a light that you can insert into the hole. It plugs into a regular household outlet.
I love the warm, calming glow of this lamp and it’s natural look. No matter how many times we explain to the “baby” (who is 3 years old) that it’s made of salt, she calls it her “wok lamp” (“rock lamp” for those who don’t speak toddler-ese) and she loves to turn it on and look at it, especially at night.
