I’m sure this is merely a coincidence but every year when Daylight Saving Time begins and we “spring” forward an hour, my family also “springs” forward into a very busy schedule.
Now, I’m not going to necessarily blame Daylight Saving Time for that busyness…clearly DST has enough haters out there…but I will say it happens every year at about the same time. Hmm…
It’s definitely a time of the year where I really have to buckle down and get organized. An assortment of school activities, recitals, spring sports, summer camps to schedule, work projects due, and on and on and on. Oh how I miss the lull and quietness of January!
And despite all of the really great devices and apps out there to help organize a person like me, I always find myself going right back to the same tool — the planner!
I know, totally old school! But writing things down in a planner and making lists is hands-down the best way for me to remember things. There is just something magical about the connection between hand writing something and the memory part of your brain {totally not a memory expert here, so don’t quote me on that!}.
This year I’m using the Mom On The Go Planner. It’s a spiral bound planner that goes above and beyond the basic “calendar” planner. So much so that I have to give you a little tour of this amazing planner!
First, the cover is beautiful! They have a number of different covers to choose from and you really won’t be disappointed with any of them!
Right away you’ll find pages to help keep you organized in the Mom On The Go Planner, including pages to organize birthday and anniversaries for the year and some of your main contacts that you might want to keep handy (for you or or kids).
Then, as you enter into the calendar portion of the planner, you’ll see that each month is marked with a tab and includes a monthly overview and more detailed weekly calendar pages that allow you to enter daily activities into there different categories (I keep mine organized into “kids’ activities”, “family activities”, and “work”). I absolutely adore how much space they give you on those weekly pages!
At the end of each month’s section you’ll also find two pages of space for keeping track of different things for that month and a basic budget worksheet, as well as a few additional lined blank pages for whatever notes or lists you might need to make. I absolutely adore this part of the Mom On The Go Planner! It’s such a simple addition to the planner that you might not even notice it at first but it’s so nice to keep all those different lists and notes organized into one space!
Another fun addition at the end of some of the monthly sections are these “Planning Pages”. For example, in the June section, there is this great “Summertime Schedule” that you could use to plan out Summer camps or summertime chores for the kids. In August you’ll find a “Back To School Schedule” to help get your mind wrapped around that school-time schedule. And in December you’ll find several pages that will assist you in staying organized during the Christmas season (planning Christmas dinner, shopping for gifts, sending out cards, etc).
At the end of the Mom On The Go Planner you’ll also find a section devoted to Home & Family. This section is packed full of pages to just help you keep track of goals, your child’s yearly progress, finances, vacation ideas, and more.
I told you this little guy went above and beyond! And I just gave you a basic overview 😉 You’ll definitely find other fun surprises in your Mom On The Go Planner!
Life Organized also offers accessories for your planner to make staying organized even that much easier! You’ll love this planner bookmark that easily snaps onto the spiral binding so you can easily locate what week you’re on when your kids decide to close your planner on you {they’re such big helpers!} and the stamper with a words like “birthday”, “appointment” and “laundry” that you can easily stamp those words right into the week or month.
I really do love how much this planner helps on a daily basis for our family to stay on task and organized. My kids love thumbing through the pages to see what events we having coming up and my middle school daughter is already asking for a planner like this of her own for next year. I think their Simple Planner may just be perfect for her!
Not everyone thinks about getting a planner in March, but, when you think about the fact that we still have 3/4ths of the year yet to go and, for most of us, we’re entering the busiest times of the year, how could you NOT get a planner right now!?!

March 24, 2017 at 3:21 pmI like that it has a workable number of planning tools in a single place. I made the mistake last year of getting a planner with an insane number of page types — seriously, there were over 150, from kids’ chores to potty training to planning TV watching — and I ended up tearing most of them out because I never used them. This looks much more useful for me.
