Spring is my favorite time of the year because it means that it’s softball and baseball season. I don’t enjoy watching professional baseball anymore, but I LOVE watching my children play. My middle child has chosen to play softball just like her mama. It’s surreal watching my daughter play softball because it’s like watching myself. I know that sounds totally crazy, but it’s true. Her mannerisms are so similar to mine especially on the field. She even plays the same positions that I did.
Back in the day girls didn’t wear face masks, but it is definitely an improvement. My daughter will never have to deal with getting hit in the face with a ball. If your child takes a ball to the face it will only happen once, I promise. I was my daughter’s age when it happened to me and I never missed another ball.
What about all the gear these kids have? I always used the helmets the schools provided, now they have their own. My daughter has a helmet, batting glove, bat, face mask, glove, ball and a softball book bag to carry around all her equipment.
Now that my son is old enough to play baseball he is for the first time this spring! I can’t express how happy it makes me to see him out on the field enjoying his sport. I had to miss his first baseball game ever because I was in the emergency room with my daughter getting stitches. He told me, “mama, I didn’t have to use the tee.” In his league they are given three pitches then they bring out the tee for the boys to hit off. I’m sure seeing my son on the field was the same surreal experience that I have watching my daughter for my husband.
Do your children play sports? Is so which one?
