I LOVE the invention of the food pouch. They are not just for babies either. While that is when I first starting buying squeezable food, it turns out they are pretty awesome in school lunches too. However, the price tag of those ever so convenient food pouches is hard to swallow. Pun intended. I was thrilled to find there are pouches I can more cost effectively fill on my own. http://squooshi.com/ has an adorable array of reusable food pouches.
I have a 7, 5, and 2 year old. I wish I knew about these pouches when I was making my own baby food. They would have been awesome, but I’ll get over that lost opportunity and hopefully this post will find someone that has a little one eating baby food. We use our pouches EVERY SINGLE DAY in school lunches for my 5 and 7 year old. They enjoy picking out what pouch they want. They told me their friends think they have cool lunches. I’ll pretend that means they have a cool mom. All I do for the older ones is pour apple sauce into the pouch. It’s neat, easy, quick, and saving us tons of money.
My nearly 2 year old eats applesauce and yogurt in his pouches. For some reason he had an aversion to gogurt. I try not to cater to the kids being too finicky, but I discovered he would eat gogurt if I put it in a squooshi pouch. It was super easy and made for one less lunch battle. Check out the recipes for other fun things to put in your pouches: http://squooshi.com/blogs/recipes
I’m not one for making extra work for myself. While you can hand wash these pouches, you can also throw them in your dishwasher. Yup, they are that awesome. I put ours on the top rack and they have held up great through many cycles in my dishwasher. The tops go in the dishwasher too. I must note that they have caps that that are large enough that they won’t be a choking hazard. They are super easy to fill as well. There is a ziplock type opening on the bottom so you can quickly fill the pouches.
Here are a few other happy facts about these pouches: Squooshi reusable food pouches are BPA-free, PVC-free, Lead-free, Phthalate-free, puncture resistant plastic, to provide convenience and durability without unnecessary chemicals. The manufacturer we work with is ISO 9001 certified and BRC rated, meaning the company meets international standards for quality and safety protocols as pertains to ingredients, allergens, hygiene, humane trade practices, and foreign ingredient exposures.
I would suggest you start with the Family Starter Kit. That gives you two different styles of tops, all the cute animal pouches, and various sizes of pouches.
FILL. EAT. WASH. REPEAT I <3 Squooshi

February 27, 2015 at 12:34 amMy oldest loves food pouches, and it’s only a matter of time before my youngest starts eating from them too. I’ve heard about the reusable kind a lot but wasn’t sure what to think… now I really want to try them! Especially since I’ve been making my own baby food and applesauce lately. 🙂
