My girls and I love finding new music to share with our friends here at SIMPLE. Right now Sugar Free Allstars newest release All On A Sunday Afternoon is at the top of our our listening favorites list.
You may think I’m exaggerating, but from 3 rooms away I can get my 2-year-old to come RUNNING by just starting the opening notes to their dance inspiring song “Gotta Get Up.” Think I’m exaggerating? Try playing the below video for your little one and see if they don’t start shaking their groove thing as well.
I could try to summarize the fun and eclectic stylings found on the Sugar Free Allstars album, but I think this blurb from their bio does a much better job than I ever could…
Imagine that Deep Purple and Sly and the Family Stone had a love child that grew up in New Orleans listening to Ray Charles, Black Sabbath and Booker T. That love child would be the Sugar Free Allstars. With their diverse musical influences and unusual instrumentation, this funky organ/drum duo from Oklahoma City doesn’t quite fit into any given pigeonhole. The music blends New Orleans funk, Memphis soul and Hammond organ-drenched gospel, wrapped in a colorful rock and roll package. Add to the mix a touch of pop songwriting sensibilities, humor and a high-energy live show and you’ve got the Sugar Free Allstars.
Usually I’d suggest the instant gratification of a digital download over the slight delay of waiting for a physical CD to arrive. Not so with the All On A Sunday Afternoon album. Get the physical CD so you can have the extra bonus disk that contains the full-length concert DVD that had my kids bouncing around the living room giggling nonstop!
Basically, these guys rock. This album is awesome and I really hope that Sugar Free Allstars come to my part of the Midwest sometime soon so I can take my girls.
