We are enjoying the more relaxed schedule that summer holds, but I do like to have a soft plan set for each day. We begin summer days with a slow start. When the kids get up, they are allowed TV time. We have breakfast on the couch together and watch our favorite cartoons. One of the shows that I enjoy with the kids is Becca’s Bunch.
Becca’s Bunch is a Nick Jr. series. It’s a pre-school comedy about a little bird who has a big heart. If you aren’t familiar with the show, HERE is a link to preview the show. There is a cast of characters that your little ones will fall in love with such as Becca, Russell, Sylvia and Pedro. They demonstrate positive thinking, leadership and problem solving through each adventure!
I’m a firm believer in children entertaining themselves, but I don’t mind directing their imaginations in the right direction. I like to plan in a few projects into our lazy summer days. This week we planted seeds and we are watching them grow. A little bit of Wagtail Woods came to our home. We did character-inspired planting seeds (Becca’s Sweet Peas, Russell’s Marigolds, Pedro’s Forget Me Nots and Sylvia’s Sunflowers) for our Becca’s Bunch planting activity. Here is the Garden Worksheet instructions and seed labels.
All you need to do this project is the following:
- cups
- potting soil
- seeds (Walmart, Amazon, Lowe’s, Home Depot, or your local greenhouse should sell the packets)
- cardstock (to label your seeds)
- popsicle sticks
- glue
- spoon
Use cardstock to create labels for your seeds. Attach label to a popsicle stick with a glue. You could simply write the names of the plants on the stick as well. Keep your seeds with appropriate label. Put a couple of spoonful’s of dirt in each cup and plant your seeds. Add your stick so you know what you are growing in each cup. Gently water and find a sunny window or area outside for them to grow.
It’s been fun to check on our seeds each day. So far we’ve seen our sunflower pop above the soil. It’s incredible how fast they germinate and grow. This project was a nice way to spend a warm summer evening. It continues to entertain us as we check on our plants each day. We can’t wait to see flowers soon! I hope this little planting project inspires you to grow some flowers too. Check out other craft ideas on the blog HERE.
