super bowl recipes :: football, commercials, and of course food

Our family loves football! My two year old loves to play football with daddy, and when daddy’s not home he tells me and his little sister that we are the quarterback and receiver. We enjoy watching games together on weekends in the fall when college football is in full swing.  We often support our friends’ kids at their high school football games, and we love NFL playoff time!

When we first got married we moved to Chicago knowing very few people!  Some of the first friends we met were huge football fans and we found ourselves taking a weekend getaway with a new group of friends for Superbowl weekend!  It became a tradition and this will be the 11th year we’ve watched together.  We’ve done lake houses, weekends in the city, and now we just enjoy getting together to watch the game since we live so many miles apart.  Many different people have come in and out of our Super Bowl parties, but we love the tradition with one of our closest family friends.

While we love the game itself, there’s a little more to the Super Bowl than football.  Commercials, halftime show, and food!  I wanted to share a few of the appetizers that make their way to our party every year or that I know will make your Super bowl Party a hit!

Reuben Dip

Ingredients:

16 oz. cream cheese, softened

8 oz mayo

8 oz sour cream

8 oz. shredded swiss

8 oz. corned beef

Combine all ingredients together.  Hollow out 1 loaf of rye bread and fill with mixture.  Cube all remaining bread.  Bake bread bowl for 1- 1/2 hours at 350 degrees.  Serve with cubed rye.

This Reuben Dip is my favorite.  It’s not one of those things you want to make too often throughout the year, so I look forward to having it every February.

Chili Dip

Ingredients:

2 Cans of Chili (I prefer Hormel, no beans)

16 oz. sour cream

8 oz cheddar cheese

Layer Dip in 9×13 pan. Sour cream, chili, then cheese on top. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with tortilla chips.

I love having these two dips, along with some kind of pork slider sandwiches and a veggie tray!  Enjoy the big game tomorrow!  Go Patriots!
