tank of gas tuesday :: grand rapids treetop adventure park

Last week my family and I ventured out to the Grand Rapids Treetop Adventure Park. I was shocked to see such an expanse of woods in the middle of a busy part of the city! If you live near southwest Michigan and love adventure, you have to try the Grand Rapids Treetop Adventure Park! The masterminds behind the park have created a high wire adventure complete with ziplines, rope swings, a high flying skateboard and so many more challenges.

My family consists of myself, my husband, our very adventurous 11-year-old daughter, a more hesitant 9-year-old son and an independent 4-year-old son. Our day started with a safety lesson We learned how to properly clip in to the wires and navigate our way through the courses safely.  Our 4-year-old had his own lesson on the junior course.  After the safety lessons we were able to work through the courses.  My husband took our youngest son to the junior course where he had a blast making his way through the zip lines just for him.  I took our older kids on the first easy course.  My 11-year-old zipped through while my 9-year-old struggled a bit more.  We realized on this trip that he does not love heights!  But even though it was a challenge, he made it through!  I loved that he was able to work through the challenge.

After the first course, my daughter was ready for a bigger challenge and my 9-year-old decided to join his brother on the junior course.  Let me tell you, the difficulty level of the courses is right on!  The medium course proved a bit more difficult (and, really, my daughter could swing through like Tarzan.  When I say it was more difficult I mean for the adults!)

Then we made our way to the hard course.  The day we were there, the hard and hardest courses were combined to make one expert course that you need to plan an hour to do.  Once again, my daughter finished way earlier than I did.  In fact, the man at the start said he’d never seen anyone finish the first obstacle as quickly as my daughter.  I’m fairly certain I was on the slower side (note my exhaustion in the picture below).  This course was very challenging–just keep that in mind when you decide if you want to try it!  Definitely try an easy and medium course first!

Then, at the end of the hardest course, we treated ourselves to a run on the zipline.  We had so much fun doing these challenges as a family.  Have you tried the Grand Rapids Treetop Adventure Park yet?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!
