tasty tomato :: recipes + review

imageWhen I was little, my grandparents had a garden. In the summer, as soon as we walked in the door to their house, we would head to the table to find the bowl of tomatoes. They grew the best little tiny tomatoes and always had a bowl of them ready for us when we got there. We’d gobble the whole bowl up in minutes! When I moved away for college, I was so disappointed to find out that most store tomatoes do not often taste like tomatoes right off the vine. For several years I tried to grow a small garden and was pretty unsuccessful. (I, sadly, have the blackest of thumbs ever). The farmer’s market that we usually go to often has big tomatoes, but never the little ones.  But then I discovered NatureSweet tomatoes. You’ve probably seen them. They come in the coolest little containers and you peel open up the top instead of popping it open in the middle like most fruit and veggie containers in the produce section of your grocery store. These tomatoes don’t taste like “store tomatoes” at all! They taste just like the tomatoes my grandparents used to grow. I think a lot of that has to do with the face that NatureSweet has their very own unique growing process that begins with non-GMO seeds that are naturally selected for superior taste. The tomatoes are grown in greenhouses where they are watered with fresh, clean well water and they use natural methods of insect control so that as little pesticides as possible are needed.

imageNatureSweet has three main varieties of tomatoes: Cherubs(which are grape tomato sized), Glorys(which are cherry tomato sized), and Starbursts(which are yellow). The NatureSweet website has an entire section of recipes. We made a few of them for dinner and I was pleased with how simple the recipes were as well as how tasty. I, however, have a problem following any recipe exactly. I just can.not.do.it. 🙂 So we started by trying the Cherubs Bruschetta but I used fresh basil instead of Italian seasoning and I added a little bit of minced garlic. And then I put a little goat cheese on each piece of bread before adding the bruschetta (Everything is better with a little garlic and cheese, right)? And then we made the Glorys Pasta Toss and added chicken. We ate it all up so quickly that I forgot to even take a picture!
