There’s something special about knowing your heritage—where your ancestors came from, what they may have been like, how they celebrated holidays, what foods they ate. But for so many of us, each generation loses more and more of that knowledge. My husband and I no longer have living grandparents and each only have one parent still living.
So to teach our children about their heritage, we need to look a little further than just our families. This is one reason I love My Heritage Books. These books are personalized to your children and teach them about their own heritage as well as others. There are three My Heritage books available: My Heritage Book, ABCs Around the World and My Sleigh Ride Around the World.
I ordered My Sleigh Ride Around the World to introduce my children to holiday customs in other countries. The book was personalized with a picture of my children, their names throughout the book and blank pages at the end for them to record their own holiday traditions. This book introduced my children to celebrations such as Ramadan, Hannukah, Zwanzaa and The Chinese New Year while also highlighting Christmas traditions in other countries. Reading this book will certainly become a holiday tradition in our house.
ABCs Around the World briefly introduces children to a country for each letter of the alphabet. My Heritage Book delves a little deeper into your child’s specific heritage. You can choose which countries to include in the book to make it applicable to your child’s genealogy. The book can be created with up to eight countries, which is perfect for my children who have a very mixed heritage.
I love this unique way of teaching my children about their heritage (in My Heritage Book) as well as different countries and cultures (in ABCs Around the World and My Sleigh Ride Around the World). These books would make great gifts for new babies, older children and even grandparents.
