world almanac 082 Think over some of the most important events over the past year. The Ferguson Riots, the death of Robin Williams, the Ebola scare, the retirement of Derek Jeter. As 2014 comes to a close, the newest edition of The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2015 is now available. The Almanac includes information and events that occurred in 2014.  While I often go to the internet for information, I know that facts, even on trusted sites, are not always accurate. And The World Almanac includes thousands of facts that are unavailable publicly anywhere else.  Published annually since 1868, The World Almanac and Book of Facts is used as an authoritative source on a variety of genres and subjects.

083Among many other things, The World Almanac includes popular sections such as “Year in Sports,” “Top 10 News Topics,” “The World at a Glance,” and “Time Capsule”. I was impressed with the full-color maps and the pages of color photos. My son loved the sports section with hundreds of pages of trivia and statistics featuring complete coverage of the Men’s World Cup in Brazil, 2014 World Series, Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and much more.  There are also sections such as “Offbeat News Stories” and “Most Controversial Sports Team Owners” as well as complete state-by-state election results.

There is a reason The World Almanac is the best-selling American reference book of all time.  It is an impressively thorough book that covers so many topics.  This would be a great addition to a home library.
