I love holiday movies. Love. Love. Love holiday movies. Thanksgiving Day is the official/unofficial start day for Christmas Movie Watching Season in our house and I get really excited when I find a new movie that can make the addition to the yearly rotation.
This year’s new cinematic addition to help keep me in the holiday spirit will be the newly released The Horses of McBride. Set in the Rockies of British Columbia this is the inspiring story about one girl’s fight to save two horses. Trapped in deep snow the horses are unable to escape or find food. After all else fails, young Nicki starts to dig out a mile-long path to the nearest road and ends up inspiring an entire town to come to help.
This movie is not rated, but fairly quickly into our first viewing we discovered that it was not appropriate for our 3-year-old or 6-year-old (it was just a little intense for them). I would say another few years and they’ll both be in the okay age range but use your discretion with your own kiddos and if all else fails, do a pre-viewing on your own like I did.
This movie is actually based on a true story out of McBride, British Columbia. Another fun fact, Nicki’s father is played by Aidan Quinn, as in Legends of the Fall, Aidan Quinn (and the film really does focus on the father/daughter team).
Okay, get your popcorn and hot cocoa ready and settle in for this inspiring 88 minute holiday film. It’s the perfect length to get you in the holiday spirit after the kiddos are nestles all snug in their beds.
