thomas nelson :: hermie God listens when i pray {giveaway}

Hermie is a fun little caterpillar who always has something going on. Whether he is getting in to trouble, out of trouble or just learning from his mistakes or others, my kids get a kick out of learning along with him.  Thomas Nelson has a whole series of Hermie books.  Many I have read and put my stamp of approval on.

Here is a little about their newest “to me” book:
“Hi God, it’s me, Hermie!”
It’s easy to feel like you have to do everything yourself. Hermie certainly feels that way when his friend Antonio is in trouble and no one will listen to him when he tries to get help. But God is always listening. When Hermie finally prays, God steps right in to help Antonio out.  It is a good reminder to Hermie and all of his garden friends that God always listens and always helps His children.

Children learning to read on their own are looking for books at their reading level with fun illustrations. And parents of beginning readers are looking for stories that challenge their children enough to help them become stronger readers but that also have a strong Christian message that ties into a felt need. Our new line of Hermie readers will satisfy parents and children!

This book has been ultra fun as my Lili can read now.  She is constantly picking up books and her and Adalynn are sitting down reading together  This is a Level Two Reader (…with basic vocabulary words, simple sentences, and bright illustrations that will help new readers feel more confident in reading) and ideal for ages 4-7.  Just perfect for my family!

    First of all, I tell my children they can pray whenever they would like to! I tell them that they can pray when they have nobody else to talk to, when they are worried about someone, when they want to tell God about something exciting that happened, etc.

    We pray with our 7 month old and for her. We explain to her that God cares when someone is sick or needs help and that He loves each person, and that’s why we talk with Him about needs and thankfulness. What an awesome privilege it is to be able to talk with God!

    We have a routine where we pray before meals, at bedtime, and sometimes at the beginning of the day. But I’ve been making it a point lately to have more spontaneous prayer with the kids throughout our day.

    My little one is only 7 months old so we haven’t got to praying yet, but I say my prayers everynight to say how thankful I am for my family and life. I play to teach my daughter how to say her prayers before bedtime and when ever she needs a little help from God.

    We pray with and for our children and I imagine I always will. The boys, both under 5, pray for meals and at night. We do weekly scripture memorization through school and with me in the summer. I like for them to know scripture to turn to in times of need.

    Our grandson (who this would be for) is still too young to pray himself. We pray for him, and over him.

    We do pray with our kids each evening and read devotions with them. For their “Home Reading” from school, they usually read Christian books, stories, novels. So far, our children have no problem saying Grace with us around the table, at home or out in public. They are beginning to want to say their own prayers and add their own “thank yous” and ask forgiveness for specific things from that day. We’re very proud of them.

    We have taught dd her prayers and said them with her as soon as she started talking. Now we remind her before bedtime to say her prayers. Sometimes she wants me or daddy to day them with her but lately she has been wanting to say them all on her own. She says the Our Father (she knows it all – even says it in church with us), There are 4 Corners and Now I lay me Down to Sleep. We also tell her she can talk to God and thank him for whatever she wants and ask him for special blessing (lately it has been another baby sister or brother since He took her little sister 3 years ago).

    Praying is part of who we are. My little girl started to pray as soon as she could talk with the help of mom and dad of course. Now that she is a little older 3 she can do it all on her own. We pray as a family, at meal times, and bed time.

    I still pray over my kids, I have a 2 1/2 yr old, a 1 1/2 yr old and a 4 week old. I’m not sure at what age I will transition them, tho I will also continue to pray over/with them always, as my mom still does. I pray with them at bed time.
