thoughts about being 35 years old

Ginny's 35

Birthday lunch! Pictured with my mom and boys.

How can I be 35 years old? Wasn’t I just a geeky teenage girl reading Janette Oke books in my pink carpeted bedroom with a stenciled rose border and a white canopy bed? I turned 35 on New Year’s Eve. I’ve had about a month to soak it in.

It’s crazy to me that I’ve been a wife for over a decade, I’m a mom of 3, and I’m rounding the bend towards 40. Wow, just wow!

I remember being sad about turning 30 because so many wonderful things happened in my 20’s. We got engaged, married, had 2 of our 3 kids, bought a house, etc. I was so wrong, I’ve loved my 30’s.

I would actually take 35 over 25 any ol’ day. My 30’s has brought a new confidence into my perspective. I’m not trying to impress anyone. I’m good with being a geeky mom that loves to blog. I’m not scared to chat with a stranger in public, I’m actually the weird lady at the grocery store you might have a passing conversation with. I’m thankful for who God made me. I enjoy responsibility, but don’t fear it. I’m learning to respect my own limitations.

I hope you find yourself in a happy place. Embrace whatever age or season of life you are living. Learn from those who have walked before you. Make time for the most important people in your life. James 4:14 has been heavy on my heart recently. I want to do my best in everything I do and make the most of each moment I’ve been given with my family.

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

Well, Happy Belated Birthday! The thirties is great and the forties are even better. I am a grandmother now and have a tiny bit of perspective. I am glad, you no longer put much stock about what people think of you. For years, I cared way to much if everybody liked me. I was not being the “real” me!!! Now I am more myself and I am much happier and more confident.

Terri, you just said it so well and thank you for your input. I think every season is great. Just because it’s different doesn’t mean we need to long for another time of our life. I’m glad to hear my 40’s will be great too! 🙂
