tic tac tiles :: peel and stick backsplash tiles :: coupon code

disclaimer no giveawayOur home was built in 1985 and we’ve owned it since 2008. It was a foreclosure that has needed some cosmetic repairs, but each year we try to do one big improvement. My most hated space was my kitchen and now it is my happy place. We had old tile counters with grout that I was convinced held bacteria that could wipe out a nation. My kitchen always seemed so dirty, gross, and old. It wasn’t a space that was fun to clean or cook in.

Our most current (and major) upgrade was new counters. Hallelujah to no more grout! I went with a hard surface (Corian) material and was even able to extend one side by 10 inches. When you have limited counter space, 10 inches is like a zillion inches of happiness. We’ve been beyond happy with this upgrade that we saved up to do for many years.

Easy and Affordable Backsplash

We are on a very fixed income so I took to the internet to figure out an affordable way to do our backsplash. I knew I wanted tiles, but I really didn’t want to pay someone to install them and I can’t run away fast enough from grout. We aren’t particularly handy either so we couldn’t install tiles on our own. I was really intrigued with Tic Tac Tiles peel and stick three dimensional backsplash. I knew right away that this concept was going to be the perfect fit for my DIY abilities and my cute little kitchen.

Installation

I cannot even put to words how happy I am that we used Tic Tac Tiles for our backsplash. I was able to install it myself and it was ridiculously easy.  I didn’t need any special tools and I could come and go from the project over the course of a few days because there was no mess. I would get one section complete and the kids would walk in the door from school. I would get back to the project the next day as time allowed. All I had to do was peel, stick, and sometimes cut (with scissors) each sheet. If I didn’t have such a big mouth that can’t stop telling everyone I know about these genius tiles, you would never know that they aren’t REAL tiles on my backsplash. The 3D aspect could fool anyone.peel and stick

como pebbleTile Options

I have a lot of blue and aqua tones in my kitchen so I chose the Como Pebble design. You will get a better view from the video below, but the pictures don’t even do it justice. There are mirror tiles within the pattern that give my kitchen a really classy bling. The other colors coordinate my stainless steal appliances, brown cabinets, and white counters. I’m still so in awe at how pretty my kitchen is. I went from despising it to staring at every detail with great satisfaction. I’m so thankful we could make these upgrades this year.

Whenever you are committing to a project, it’s really a good idea to order samples. Unless you can see from my kitchen that Como Pebble would work for you too. HERE are all the great designs that Tic Tac Tiles carries. The subway look is another favorite.

Tips

I’m by no means a YouTuber, but I did put together a video to show you how easy it was to install our backsplash. Scroll to the end of this post to view it. You can let your creativity run wild. These tiles can be used outside of the kitchen. I ended up adding it to the trim of the window in front of my sink and it really framed things up nicely. The random configuration of tiles makes it so forgiving if you need to piece together difficult areas in your kitchen. Everything fits together like a puzzle. I even let our 5 year old help a little bit.

easy to installI made a couple of installation mistakes and I’ll share so you can learn from me. My very first sheet I applied too closely to the silicone where my wall and counter meet. I noticed it was a tiny bit wrinkled so I reapplied the tiles so they only touch the wall. I also had a couple areas on my wall that weren’t completely flat. I quickly figured out that I need to smooth those areas with some spackle and sanding. Once my wall was flat, the tiles went on perfectly smooth. Take your time and enjoy the process. It comes together so quickly and your kitchen will feel like a brand new space.

I’m sure you have concerns about the longevity of these tiles. Feel free to comment on this post at any time and I will give you my most honest feedback. I’ve had my tiles up for a few weeks and they are holding perfectly. Even the tiles I added to my window frame that get splashed daily. I also wipe my backsplash with a sponge from time to time and they clean up great.

This could be an option for renters as well. The stickers can be removed with a hair dryer. However, I have not tested this technique personally. I have realized through my years of renting and owning, it doesn’t take much to redo a space. Every little project adds to the ambiance. Do you like a good before and after picture?
