The Design Aglow Posing Guide for Family Portrait Photography does not disappoint. It’s full of so many beautiful, clean images that the first time I read the book, I didn’t read a word. I found a nice sunny spot in the yard and while I listened to my children laugh and play, I simply took time to look carefully at the images and found myself smiling at all of the lovely. Later I curled up on the sofa with a cup of hot tea and a blanket (I love how spring days are warm and evenings still have just a bit of chill, don’t you?) and read the book from cover to cover. It was easy to read in one sitting, but full of enough information that there was no way I could really take it all in at once. This is a fabulous resource book to keep coming back to over and over again. It has some great beginner tips like make sure to pay attention to what’s in the background as well as some more in depth information about unique angles and special lenses.
The book is divided into 4 categories (Newborns & Babies, Children, Siblings, and Families) and helps the photographer identify great moments to capture and how the shot was set up. Each photograph shown includes information about the camera settings used for the photograph as well as any important information like light sources or post-processing. In the pages of this book, you’ll find out not only how to technically take pictures but how to interact with your subjects so that you get the most natural smiles and poses possible.
This book will certainly be an asset to photographers of any skill level, from a mom with a camera to a professional and in between. It will not only tell you how to recreate some of these same images but hopefully inspire you to think about how the images were created so that you can use what you’ve learned to make your own unique works of art.
