1. Cover them up! Whether in harsh weather or when washing dishes, protecting your hands from the elements helps keep them from aging as quickly. I’ll admit I have not been good about that at all, but there’s no time like the present to start! I have actually never owned a pair of rubber gloves for dishwashing–and it shows!
2. Moisturize daily, nightly and in between. I’ve started using hand cream after my morning shower, before bed and at least once in between. And remember that not all hand creams are created equal. I’ve found that Goldfaden MD Hands to Heart seems to brighten my hands (and I even think some of my small age spots are lightening up a bit). And I love that the scent is very light. I cannot handle heavily perfumed creams. Goldfaden MD uses ingredients like hyaluronic acid (which I normally only find in my face lotions) and organic red tea extract to gently moisturize hands while brightening.
3. Wear sunscreen. My years of life guarding are sure showing! While I always remember to sunscreen my face, I often forget to continue to my hands. Keeping those hands safe from the sun can help keep them looking young.
4. Start a routine now! I regret waiting so long to start a good hand routine. Learn from my mistakes and start taking care of your hands now. What I did to my hands in my 20’s and 30’s are showing–big time–now that I’m 40!
