Early summer is the perfect time to detox. Cleansing helps flush out toxins while flooding your body with organic superfoods.. This helps to give your digestive system a break from heavy winter foods and filters the kidneys, liver and gallbladder. Urban Remedy can help you get on track with the perfect cleanse–either using one of their customized juice cleanses or using their new book, The 4 Day Cleanse Retreat, for a more DIY approach to cleansing.
I used Urban Remedy’s 3 Day Purify Cleanse as a way to jump start the healthier eating I tend to lean toward in the summer. Urban Remedy made it so easy, delivering the juices right to my door and thoroughly explaining the pre-cleanse, during-cleanse and post-cleanse. The juices are spread out in 2-hour increments, so you’re not left with a long period of time without calories. Yes, I did get hungry, but not horribly so. Just when I thought I would need to break down and eat, it would be time for another juice, a few of which were very filling and all of which were full of nutrients from things I can’t find in the grocery store–like burdock root and dandelion greens. It was surprisingly refreshing and, when I was done cleansing, I felt ready to kick my sugar and coffee habits. I think when you feel so in control of what goes into your body and how good you feel, you don’t really want to go back to how you were before.
Now that my cleanse is done, I’d still like to incorporate some of the juices into my daily routine as well as some other cleansing rituals. I’ve read The 4 Day Cleanse Retreat cover to cover. While I’d love to spend a full four days cleansing (and hope to someday), for now, as summer is just getting started and I’m home with my three kids, I’m planning on incorporating just a few of the recipes and rituals into my routine. There are amazing recipes for juices, broths and salads. There are also recipes for spa baths and ideas for activities during your cleanse. And Neka Pasquale gives options for a once or twice a week cleanse to help maintain your health benefits, so I feel able to keep practicing mindfulness with my eating without devoting a full 4 days. One of my favorite features of the book is the glossary which highlights certain foods and their healing properties and also addresses ailments and the best foods to help them.
Urban Defense has just launched a new product perfect for our readers–the Shorty! These 8-oz. cold-pressed juices are the perfect size for kids. I rarely let my kids have juice, but I have no problem saying yes to these organic, high-quality juices. When my kids came home from their school’s field day, they couldn’t believe I set out orange juice to go with their snack. They both declared it the best orange juice they had ever had. Of course I had to sneak a sip (trust me, they wouldn’t share more than a sip) and I had to agree. They eagerly checked out the other flavors and started planning which one they were going to try next. Check out all of the yummy flavors!
