valentine window decals :: a simple diy

This past weekend the kids and I were just feeling those winter blahs. The snow is starting to melt (yay!) but it leaves everything outside looking drab and dirty and…well…blah!

So, we decided to let the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday inspire us and we created Valentine window decals to decorate those blah windows!

Sure, you can easily run to the store and pick up an assortment of heart shaped window decals but this project is way more fun and lets the kids create hearts in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors! And, because it’s really quite easy, it’s a great way to let them get creative on a wintery day!

Here’s what you’ll need ::

Puffy paints in an assortment of colors (we even added in glittery ones)
Clear plastic storage bags (you can use any size — gallon, quart, sandwich)
Printed out heart shapes (optional)

Let’s get creative ::

Step 1 :: Insert your printed out heart shapes into the clear plastic storage bags. You can find shapes using Google or just skip this step and freehand them.

Step 2 :: Using the puffy paint, draw heart shapes or write out phrases and words on the clear plastic bags. Be sure to leave the paint thick and puffy.

Step 3 :: Set your creations aside to dry over night. Depending on how thick your paint is, this step may take longer. You want your creations to be completely dry before moving on to the next step. So don’t rush it 🙂

Step 4 :: Peel the dried hearts and words off the plastic bags. Do this slowly so you don’t tear apart your creations.

Step 5 :: Stick them to the windows! And enjoy!!

And there’s no need to stop at Valentine’s Day! You can create these for St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, or just some fun spring scenes to bright up your windows and your day!

    This is such a great idea, and for any holiday at that! Children of any age can design and make their own, great keepsake for grandparents. Thanks for sharing.
