Hi I’m Ginny, I’m not an artist and I don’t particularly like crafts. I have no business making my own cards, but I realized this weekend that we forgot to buy Valentine’s Day cards. We like to send cards to our cousins in Michigan and time was not on our side to get them in the mail.
Sometimes our kids inspire us. Annabelle got THIS watercolor set from Amazon (only $7.98-$9.98) for Christmas and has been making some beautiful pieces of art. It gave me the idea to see if there were any ideas on YouTube for easy watercolor cards. I was going to put her to work, but then I got inspired and joined her. I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun it was to paint with watercolors.
Here is the easiest card we created. It was fun to experiment with different color schemes. Even Charlie tried his hand at painting and did quite well.
I used a heart shape cookie cutter to lightly trace a heart shape and then we got to work on painting our heart. If you don’t have a heart to trace, the video gives you instructions how to make a heart shape to trace.
This card was fun to make, but drawing the birds was a tiny big challenging. The hearts and dripping affect was unique and surprisingly simple to do. Next time I would skip the birds and go with a more simple design. However, Annabelle did great with her birds so don’t be afraid to go for it!
As you can see, we did a few designs. We found our inspiration on YouTube and I also did an image search for “easy watercolor Valentine cards”. If you find yourself in need of cards or you don’t feel like buying them, I hope this post inspires you to try to make your own cards. I have a hunch that our recipients will be touched by not only the gesture of getting a card, but one made by hand with love.
Making these cards was a special time I shared with the kids on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I enjoy teaching them how to show people their love as well. They were pleased with their masterpieces and we happily got them in the mail on Monday.
I hope you have a happy Valentine’s Day with your loved ones and that you know how loved you are. For more Valentine’s Day posts, click HERE.
