I searched the internet for heart shaped molasses cookies and I couldn’t find any. I saw lots of gingerbread and cutout cookies, but not exactly what I was looking for. So I set out to make my Grandma’s Molasses cookie recipe into a Valentine heart shape.
Celebrating holidays with my family brings me great joy as a mom. I have fond memories from my childhood of traditions we had for each holiday and want to create these moments for my kids. That being said, I had a baking buddy.
Getting a soft drop cookie into a heart shape was accomplished by careful cookie dough placement in two spoonful’s. This could work with any drop cookie if you have another recipe you want in a heart shape.
We defined the heart shape a little more when they were hot out of the oven. Work quickly because when they cool they are set in that shape.
It’s a great cookie for anytime of year. It always turns out perfectly chewy and soft.
My Grandma’s Recipe
- ¾ cup margarine or butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1¾ cup flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¾ tsp cloves
- ¾ tsp ginger
- 2 tsp baking soda
- ¼ cup molasses
- Cream the butter, egg, and sugar together.
- Add the flour, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
- Dissolve 2 tsp baking soda in ¼ cup molasses. Add to batter and mix well.
- Drop from teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet. Give space for spreading when baking. Sprinkle with sugar on top of cookies before baking.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 8-10 minutes.
