Happy fall!
We are busy around our home settling into new school routines, garden clean up, and of course soaking in as much harvest fun as we can.
However, along with this season also comes more indoor time, classroom sneezes, and busier schedules, and we are preparing our bodies to stay healthy. It is very do-able you know!
I was more than happy to receive a fall collection of Mountain Rose Herbs products to help us ease into this fall season in a prepared way, and I can’t wait to share them with you! (Read my previous MRH review HERE!)
• DRIED ELDER BERRIES: Elder berries pack a HUGE punch against all those bugs you and your home will come in contact with this cold and flu season. They very powerfully help the body fight the flu in particular, and gives the immune system a boost. It is SO easy to prepare your own elder berry syrup with just a couple ingredients! Give the kids a spoonful every day or stir into their yogurt – what a simple way to keep the kids healthy all fall and winter! I typically go through a bag or 2 of these every fall and winter.
• ECHINACEA TEA: Another immune system boosting option, this tea is perfect for sipping on when you feel those first sniffles or run down feeling. The immune system will be stronger and more efficient. It’s mild flavor is perfect when you aren’t feeling quite yourself too! I add some raw honey to a lightly steeped brew in a sippy for my girls – perfect for keeping them hydrated and the immune system rolling when they aren’t up to eating much.
• CHAMMOMILE TEA: This chamomile tea has a beautiful flavor compared to others I have tried! The fall season is the perfect time for Mama AND the kids to get a little more rest and sleep so the body can fight bugs more efficiently. There is a reason the sun goes down a little earlier this time of year! With the stress of new schedules and our bodies coming in contact with new germs, it is so good to wind down at the end of the day with a warm chamomile tea to help us get the rest our bodies need.
• COCONUT BUTTER AND AVOCADO OIL: The cooler, drier air takes a toll on the skin doesn’t it! I haven’t done a post on making body cream yet but using cocoa butter and quality oils and just whipping them together makes a beautiful, safe body butter for your skin! I have never used avocado oil for this before but I just loved the feel of it. It is milder in scent than what I usually use which is coconut oil. So I blended it with some lavender essential oil and it turned out to be the perfect body butter! The MRH website describes avocado oil as being great for those with eczema or very sensitive skin.
Why choose Mountain Rose Herbs for your herbal fall season stash? Trust. It’s that simple. Our bodies are going through enough as it is with the transition into a different more stressful season, the least we can do is nourish and take care of it with products that are from a certified organic, trustworthy source. I have been getting my elder berries here for years and after tasting the difference in quality of the teas this will now be my source for these as well!

September 23, 2013 at 11:32 pmMy daughter is pregnant and even tho she’s an adult I still get on her about taking her vitamins with iron, vitamin C. I’m all about washing hands and sneezing into your elbow. People laugh but I think it’s important to protect myself however I can. I had cancer 2 yrs ago and I still have a low immune system. If anybody is sick I stay away until the coast is clear of germs. I’ve always wanted to try these.Thank you 🙂

September 23, 2013 at 8:37 amPreparing for the fall…..put all the summer clothes in tubs in the back of the closets, and pull out the tubs of fall/winter stuff….. Buy pumpkins to decorate with, get out the fall candles and scents for house, bathe the doggies and freshen them up for their winter coats to grow in, get out their warmer dog beds and put up the cooler fabric summer stuff, bring out the jackets and coats, get flu shots, get out my Xmas notebook and start a gift list, Get a tuneup on the vehicles, get oil changed and check the fluids and tires, make sure I have plenty of tissues on hand and other supplies for sniffles and colds, up the intake of fluids and other stuff to keep everyone healthy….. I could keep going on and on about things I do to get my family ready for fall…..but that’s a list of the first things I could think of…. I have chamomile tea on hand and echinacea tea on hand however, I do not have these things in their natural state like this. Ive thought many time about making body butter and making other homemade things like that for us and would absolutely love to win this selection of stuff from mountain rose herbs to do some of that with. My step daughter has psoriasis, so I’d love to experiment around with the cocoa butter and avocado oil and make her some natural body butters…. and would love to make us tea from these fresh dried herbs rather then using the tea bags I currently use. Thank you for the chance to win!

September 20, 2013 at 10:44 amI tried making the elderberry syrup last year and mine didn’t come out very good, wasn’t very sweet, so my kids wouldn’t take it. I would be willing to try it again though. This year I am doing essential oils along with manuka honey, probiotics, and vitamin D3.

September 10, 2013 at 1:23 pmI would love, love, love to win this! I’ve never tried elderberry syrup. But I hear so much good stuff about it. And with 4 or 5 rounds of the flu last year it’s probably a good idea. I do try to keep up on our fermented cod liver oil, coconut oil, gelatin/broth and other nutrient dense foods.
