Every January my family and I give up dessert. After too much indulgence over Thanksgiving and Christmas, it seems like a good way to reset our brains and bodies. Instead of dessert, I try to focus on eating enough fruits and vegetables, getting plenty of healthy fats and proteins and exercising regularly. For me, wellness is not about weight loss, it’s about staying healthy, keeping up with my kids and powering my body naturally.

012One of my favorite ways to boost my fruit and veggie intake is with smoothies. And by throwing in a packet of Aloha Daily Good Greens, I am adding 2 more servings of fruits and vegetables to my smoothie. Aloha Daily Good Greens comes in three flavors–original, berry and chocolate. I sampled all three (and so did my kids!) and we enjoyed all of them.  I tried two recipes straight from Aloha and have also been using the packets in some of my go-to smoothie recipes.  Aloha Daily Good Greens can also be sprinkled into oatmeal or added to water or another drink to give your foods a big nutrition boost.

One of my favorite smoothies boasts protein, greens and fruit.  I love starting the day with this smoothie as it energizes me and keeps me full.  And I get tons of fruits and veggies in first thing in the morning.  This is also my go-to smoothie for my kids’ after school snack.

ingredients:
1 whole banana
2 handfuls greens (kale, spinach, etc.)
1 handful berries (I prefer blueberries or strawberries, but anything works well)
1 handful frozen peach slices (or more berries, if you prefer)
1/2 avocado
1 pack Aloha Daily Good Greens
water, juice or a combination of the two

Blend the fruits, veggies and Aloha with as much water or juice as needed to blend until smooth.  If you are not used to green smoothies, here are a few hints to get used to the color:  1.  Put in a stainless steel coffee cup so you’re not looking at it   2.  Start with less greens and more berries (especially blueberries as the color will take over) and work your way to more greens.  3.  Purchase the Aloha berry blend.  It is more purple than green–but is still full of the good stuff!

I really like the individual packets! My current method of carrying my protein powder to work in a plastic baggie is not the best

I really need to get back into making smoothies. I like that these packets are pre-measured.
