Rading Rainbow SkybraryWhat is it about nostalgia that makes our hearts swell and brings a smile to our faces? I had a wonderful childhood with many fond memories… now that I am a mother, I want to give my son the same experiences and adventures that helped shape me into the person I am today. I vividly remember watching LeVar Burton on Reading Rainbow as a child, so when I had the opportunity to let me son discover the magic of Reading Rainbow, I was excited!

Reading opens up a whole new world to children. They are able to travel to far off places, pretend they are pirates sailing the 7 seas, circle the moon as astronauts, and climb mountains searching for gold. The possibilities that reading opens up are endless!

With the wonder of technology, reading does not have to be confined to books. Information is at the tips of our fingers with the Internet, computers, tablets and phones! Reading Rainbow may have been my childhood memory, but since they have “kept up with the times,” it can now be a memory for my sweet little boy!

With Skybrary, you can “check out” books online. With the option to read by yourself or have the story read to you,  Skybrary is perfect for kids of ALL ages!! Each book is downloaded into your “backpack,” so the books are ready to read whenever you are. From National Geographic kids to adventurous people and fascinating places, Skybrary opens up a whole new world!! 🙂 My son especially loves the Video Field Trips where he learns about animals, heavy machinery and exotic places!

If you are like me and want to share some of your childhood memories with your children, check out the Reading Rainbow Animal Cafe’ DVD as well. This movie compiles several of Reading Rainbow’s original episodes into a fun movie to watch. NOW AVAILABLE AT TARGET!

unnamedThe four episodes and books featured in this DVD are “Animal Cafe,” read by Martin Short, “The Tortoise and the Hare,” read by Gilda Radner, “Ludlow Laughs,” read by Phyllis Diller, and “Giving Thanks: A Native American Good Morning Message,” read by Nicholson Earl Billey. Airing on PBS from 1983-2009, and hosted by LeVar Burton (“Roots,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) for its entire 26-year run, the program garnered more than 200 awards, including 26 Emmys and a Peabody Award. To learning about comedy in one episode, to profiling people who have occupations in the evening and early morning in another, LeVar takes children on fun-filled learning adventures they won’t forget.

Wow, we used to have Libraries, now this generation has Skybraries. It’s amazing where technology has taken us. The kids are going to love this. I like that my niece and nephew will be able to read the books themselves or have the book read to them. That’s amazing.
