When my son was an infant, he was prone to ear infections. I’m not sure how many ear infections he had, but it was near 10 one year. And every time we had a rough night, I found myself wondering if he had another ear infection. So I would take him in to the doctor, pay my co-pay, expose him to all kinds of germs and find out that, in fact, he just had a rough night. I wish I had discovered Dr. Mom Otoscope back then! It would have saved me so much time, money and worry!
Dr. Mom Otoscope is an otoscope you can use at home to check for ear infections. The Dr. Mom otoscope comes with a small booklet that explains exactly how to use the otoscope and shows pictures of a healthy eardrum as well as an infection, a perforation and an ear tube as well as additional pictures online. That way you can get a good idea of what you are looking for. I suggest checking out your children’s ears when they are not fussy or complaining of ear pain. Then you’ll get a good idea of how to use the otoscope and what a healthy ear looks like before you actually have a need for the otoscope. Then you’ll feel comfortable checking out your child’s ear before you decide if it’s worth it to run to the doctor.
When I first heard about Dr. Mom, my concern was cost. I know medical equipment is expensive and I just wasn’t sure if it was worth it to have something like that at my own house. Then I looked online and realized the Dr. Mom otoscope is only $24! This is less than the cost of one co-pay for me–not to mention the amount of time I will save by not feeling the need to rush to the doctor just to check. My kids are old enough now to tell me when their ears hurt, but I’m still excited to have this on hand so I can check things out and know if it looks pretty irritated or not. Since some ear infections heal on their own, I’ll be able to keep an eye on their ears and know if things are improving or not.
Do your kids get frequent ear infections? Do you know someone who could use a Dr. Mom otoscope?

December 19, 2015 at 2:44 pmWhat I wouldn’t have done to have had that when my son was growing up! He used to get them all the time and it was just so awful because sometimes I just didn’t realize how bad the infection was. This would have saved him a lot of pain and misery I’m sure. Very cool product.

December 20, 2015 at 9:45 pmI’m with you, Robin! We had a rough time with my youngest. I’m glad to have one now–just in case! But it would have saved so much time and money back then!
