Time flies and before we know it, summer will be over and those that are currently on summer break will be scratching our heads, wondering WHERE the time went. Did they have fun? Did we do enough with our kids? Will they remember the fun we had? Will they remember the times they got in trouble? And the list goes on and on and on.
While, as parents, it seems sometimes we always reach for the ‘wow’ factor when doing things with our kids. Isn’t it crazy how the little things end up being the big things to our kids? And the big things that we have spent hours planning, turn out to the be the little things for them? Ha! Just the opposite of what we think will happen.
On the note of planning, I recently learned about an awesome activity one of my friends had happen when she was little. Her Mom would put together a “Mom’s Mystery Trip” for her kids. She would tell them what they need for the day and on they would go.
Well, I decided to do this in honor of my friend’s mother and the amazing memories that I’m sure she created…and that her daughter is not creating with her kids.
First stop was Deer Tracks Junction. Clues were closed toed shoes, water and summer clothes.
We played, and played and played on play structures. Pet sweet animals in a ‘petting zoo type area, fed elk, saw a baby deer that was born 15 minutes prior, fed some more animals and had a blast! Capped it off with some ice cream, of course.
Won’t you join me in creating simple memories that will last a lifetime this summer? I hope you will. Doesn’t have to be huge, just something fun for your children. Maybe a trip to the zoo? Or the beach? Tag us with #MomsMysteryTrip so we can follow along and see what you are doing too. Can’t wait to see what you do!!
Deer Tracks Junction is located in Cedar Springs, Michigan. You can find them on Facebook as well as their web address if you want to check them out too! 🙂
