Since we homeschool, I generally jump at any chance to try a new learning opportunity. I especially love easy-to-use and interactive learning opportunities. We are big science fans and my 8 year old has said since Kindergarten that he wants to be an astrophysicist. Whether he’ll actually become one remains to be seen (obviously) but he was able to “test drive” a few of his ideas with the uzzingo interactive lessons about space. Although these lessons were designed for middle schoolers, it was easy to understand and kept the attention of all of my children (ages 2-8) as well as being interesting enough that our middle school neighbors had fun watching, too.
Uzzingo uses real-life examples to teach and reinforce ideas that students hear and see in their regular lessons but are thorough enough that I think it could be used as stand-alone curriculum. It provides printouts for the lessons including activity sheets (a teacher copy with answers is available, but only through the parental log-in), independent practice sheets, and an end-of-lesson assessment.
My children not only liked the individual lessons, but also like earning Zings! You achieve Zings (points) by watching videos or completing an activity and can then redeem your Zings for great prizes for yourself(such as gift cards) or donate to those in need. (Since we are below grade level and have just started using uzinggo, we’re still working towards those prizes!)
You can access uzinggo by purchasing either an annual or monthly subscription, which begin as low as $9.95.
